I have asked Westport Town Council to mow the green area to provide a rough football and play area for the children of the Golf Course Road for this summer.  This is the area below Pairc na Coille which will become the Golf Course Road area's park to be known as Pairc na Phortaigh.

The Town Clerk has replied to my request and informs me that there are a number of issues concerning insurance, site security and the marking of boundaries for the new Gaelscoil which currently need resolving.

The Town Clerk is currently clarifying these issues and I will keep you all up to date with any developments.

In the meantime the plans for Pairc na Phortaigh are well advanced and are due to be put on display shortly.  The new park will contain (as I promised you in 2004) a playground, a football pitch, a walking path, basketball and volleyball courts and a parkland area.

All through the design process I have been championing your concerns about our area's requirements and about traffic and parking concerns and I believe these have been addressed in the final plan.

The plans now are to go on public display and I hope to post them here very soon.
